Dog shows and titles in Russia

There are 4 major types of dog shows in Russia.

    1. Conformation (beauty) shows organised by the Russian Kennel Federation (RKF) under the auspices of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). These all-breed shows can be international (CACIB) or national (CAC), organised by regional all-breed clubs or associations – members of RKF. Titles awarded at international shows in Russia are subject to FCI Regulation; titles awarded at national shows are subject to RKF Regulation.
Further on this page, you will find more relevant details concerning Rhodesian Ridgebacks’ participation in these shows.

   2. Special Rhodesian Ridgeback Club shows organised by the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Russia - one of so-called National Breed Clubs (Russian acronym - “NKP”) under RKF. Like all other National Breed Clubs, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club reports to RKF on all matters related to Special Breed shows (Club shows) organisation. Titles awarded at Club shows are subject to a special RKF Regulation. These are special Club titles (standard to all National Breed Clubs in Russia), not equivalent to those awarded in all-breed conformation shows (CAC, J.CAC). To become a Club Champion, a dog needs to win a certain number of the Breed Club’s titles, depending on their level. The combination of the National Breed Club Championship and Russian Champion title leads to the highest-ranking national title – Grand Champion of Russia.
You will find all information concerning Rhodesian Ridgeback Club shows and respective titles on this page.

   3. Hunting dog shows are organised by regional Hunting Societies (their full names are “Hunting and Fishing Society” of a region – for example, Moscow Regional Hunting and Fishing Society (“MOOiR”)). These societies adhere to the Russian Hunting and Fishing Union (“RORS”) which is an official partner of the Russian Kennel Federation through one of its founding bodies – Russian Federation of Hunting Dogs Breeding (“RFOS”). Unlike conformation (beauty) shows, Hunting shows follow a different protocol which includes not only the evaluation of confirmation per se, but also its combination with a dog’s working abilities reflected in his/her field trial records. Only hunting breeds officially recognised by FCI and/or Russian Hunting Union and enrolled in formal hunting (field) trials in Russia are admitted to participate in Hunting shows. Rhodesian Ridgebacks have been authorised to participate in Hunting shows since 2004.
Details on Hunting dog shows, their special titles and awards can be found further on this page.

These were 3 major types of Russian dog shows, which are established by FCI and RKF (as FCI member), as well as members of the Russian Hunting Union, associated with RKF.

The 4th type of dog show in Russia are conformation (beauty) shows led by cynological organisations that are not members of FCI and RKF.

These are IKU (International Kynological Union), SKOR (Russian acronym for “Union of Kynological Organisations of Russia”), “Dobryi Mir” and other independent cynological associations. Though their shows may award titles like CAC or CACIB, as well as championship titles, these are not FCI (RKF) titles, and the process of obtaining these titles may differ from that of FCI (RKF). These shows do not verify dogs’ working abilities, either – so their titles are not recognised by the Russian National Hunting Union or its member societies.
For those interested, we will publish some brief information on these shows on our site later. However, we would like to mention that shows that are not conducted by FCI (RKF), or official National (Regional) Hunting organisations, are not considered a priority for our breeding.
