Ridgeback Health
Rhodesian Ridgeback is an old breed with strong immunity to disease and general good health. Good health is one of the most appealing characteristics of the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed. All Rhodesian Ridgeback owners first of all ensure that the dog is in good health. The dog’s showy talents, titles or awards are always secondary to its health. Indeed every owner can live with the fact that their lovely pet will not be a world champion, best in hunting, coursing or agility. But if your dog is ill, it is hard to bear for the owner as well.
But remember that in spite of the fact that Ridgebacks have excellent health from birth, this feature can be brought to nothing if the dog does not get proper care. That’s why a balanced diet and the right feeding pattern are so important. In addition the owners should keep their dogs vaccinations up to date to prevent any infectious diseases.
Finally, active Rhodesian Ridgebacks should get all the necessary physical exercise they need, that’s why a 15 minute walk around the house is not for them. Walks with Rhodesian Ridgebacks should be long, active and involved. The walker should enjoy the experience as much as the dog. In particularly cold weather Rhodesian Ridgebacks should be dressed because they have no undercoat. If you follow all these simple rules you will have a healthy, bright and cheerful dog not only during its youth but in its maturity and declining years.
