Ridgeback Care
When choosing a dog many people give preference to dogs that do not need any special care. If you dream of a Ridgeback puppy but fear that you cannot give it proper care, don’t worry, the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed does not require any special care: it has no thick or long coat, it does not need frequent washing. Care of your Ridgeback’s legs and pads is important. It is recommended that the legs and, in particular, the pads are washed after every walk. Making sure that the spaces between the pads are clean and free from stones and dirt. As with any breed you will also be responsible for dental care and nail cutting. As the owner, the only one thing that you will have to find will be the time for walks. Rhodesian Ridgeback’s need long and active walks. A 10 minute slow walk in the garden is not enough for this dog. So, if you dream of a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy, be ready to walk with them for a long time and very actively. If nothing else, you as the owner will become a lot fitter. It would be beneficial if you can take you dog for walks in the countryside. The openness allows the dog to run, walk and play. In the city, with the exception of parks, it is difficult to give the dog the freedom it needs to exercise fully. You should also know that Ridgeback’s are short-haired and have no undercoat. So in winter time your dog should be dressed in a dog coat, after all would you go out in winter without a coat?
